Looking for Continuing Education?
The In-service Training Program at The Institute for Child and Family Health, Inc. (ICFH) offers ongoing, high quality continuing education for its staff.  Some of our programs are also offered to mental health professionals in our community.

Topics offered include:

First Steps in Infant Mental Health:
This series of workshops introduces mental health professionals to the field of Infant Mental Health.  Thirteen 2-hour sessions are offered in order to expand clinical knowledge and skills in the areas of assessment and treatment of young children and their families.  Topics include infant development, attachment, cultural issues, and empirically-based treatments. This series is made possible through funding by The Alliance for Human Services, and all of the presenters are graduates of ICFH’s three–year Infant Mental Health Train-the-Trainer Program.

The Play Therapy Series:
This series of twelve, two-hour workshops is an introduction to  play therapy. Sessions include topics such as legal and ethical issues, the rationale for play therapy, its history, the major theoretical approaches, how to utilize the toys and miniatures, and the use of play therapy with different populations. All classes are taught by the President of The Association for Play Therapy, Lisa Saldaña, LMHC, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor.

HIV/AIDS 104:

The Evidenced-Based Psychotherapies Train-The–Trainer Program:
Presented in partnership with The Integrated Psychotherapy Consortium/ Center for the Advancement of Children's Mental Health at Columbia University (ICP/CACMH).  This program will provide intensive training to twenty-five licensed mental health professionals from children’s mental health agencies throughout Miami-Dade County.  Once proficient in the treatment model, participants will be given training and support in effectively teaching and supervising other clinicians in its use.

ICFH and ICP/CACMH have developed this training program in order to ensure that at its completion participants will be competent and comfortable in the use of evidenced-based treatments for treating anxiety in children and adolescents, including:

  1. The ability to diagnose and conceptualize cases of anxiety within a cognitive behavioral framework;
  2. The effective use of the 8-12 session intervention manuals; and
  3. The use of assessment instruments and their integration with treatment planning and implementation.

In addition, participants will have acquired the skills, knowledge, and tools to help them teach and supervise other clinicians, in order to effectively disseminate and implement these interventions at their own work sites

The Evidenced-Based Psychotherapies Train-The–Trainer Program is funded by The Children’s Trust.  The Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.
