Training Plan
Areas of Concentration
The Psychology Internship Program at ICFH offers training and supervised experience in the following areas:
Psychological Assessment: Interns are required to complete 10 comprehensive psychological assessments during the course of the internship year. Specific measures utilized will be determined through consultation with the intern’s clinical supervisor and on the basis of the referral question.
Psychotherapy: Interns are provided with the opportunity to conduct individual, group, and family therapy with a diverse client population ranging in age from 5 to 19 years of age. Most of these cases will be seen in one of ICFH’s outpatient clinics, although some cases may be seen in a school setting. The opportunity to work with clients younger than 5 years is also available through the Infant Mental Health Program.
Consultation: Part of the clinical experience of interns is consultation with parents, teachers, and a variety of mental health professionals including psychiatrists, case managers, and social workers. Interns also participate in a bi-monthly Neurodevelopmental clinic at Miami Children’s Hospital.
Supervision: During the second and third trimester of the internship year, each intern will participate in supervision of a practicum student. Interns will meet for one hour per week of individual supervision with an assigned practicum student.
Administration: As part of the training experience at ICFH, interns will be exposed to the administrative aspects of working in a managed care environment. Interns will receive training in documentation and paperwork required for providing services to Medicaid, HMO, and grant funded clients.
Teaching: Interns are required to present one seminar topic of interest that is approved by the training committee. The internship class will also prepare and present a group seminar for each of the three clinical units.
Research: Based on the approval of the training committee, interns may designate a portion of their time during the week to research either related to their doctoral dissertation or a proposed area of study relevant to clinical practice with children, adolescents, and their families.
