20th Annual All-Aboard Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) and All-Aboard Educational Services held their 20th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, May 23, 2008 at Jungle Island. The luncheon was created as a way of thanking and acknowledging the volunteers for their commitment and dedication to the children of this community.

There were 250 attendees at the event. Jorge Estevez, morning anchor for WFOR‐TV (CBS), served as master of ceremonies. The 2007-2008 volunteer of the year was Maxiel Mateo, a senior graduating from William H. Turner Technical High School. Miss Mateo completed 255 volunteer hours for the 2007-2008 school year. She has volunteered with the All‐Aboard program for the past two years.

As part of the celebration a raffle took place and the following were the prizes and the winners:

  • Grand Prize was a trip to Orlando – winner was Edvin Alveno
  • Nintendo Wii – winner was Robert Carr II
  • IPod – winner was  Shawn Martinez III
  • $25 ITunes Cards – Alicia Vivas, Alondra Gaitan, Anette Flores, Jennifer Fonseca, Doug Jacobs, Donna Moore, Nivia Perez, Eva Vigil, Ken Dove and Janis Koch.

ICFH All‐Aboard tutoring/mentoring program provides one‐on‐one tutors to academically at‐risk pre‐K, kindergarten, first and second grade students at Miami‐Dade County Public Schools. The purpose for establishing the All‐Aboard Tutoring Program is to provide academically at‐risk Miami Dade County Public School students with the support and skills necessary for them to achieve and maintain grade levels. All‐Aboard is one of the programs offered through the Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH), a private, not‐for‐profit 501(c)(3) agency that has been serving the families of South Florida since 1945.
