Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Year Program Began: 2017

Program Description:

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma as well as their parents or caregivers. It is a structured short-term treatment model, usually completed between 12-25 sessions. Research shows that TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and complex trauma experiences. TF-CBT has also been effective in children and adolescents who have significant emotional problems (e.g., symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder, fear, anxiety, or depression) related to traumatic life events. It has also been shown to improve the participating parent’s/ caregiver’s personal distress about the child’s traumatic experience, parenting skills and in increasing supportive interactions with the child.

Eligibility Criteria and Location of Services:

Children and adolescents ages 3-18 with symptoms associated with a specified trauma experience, will be evaluated to determine if criteria are met for the TF-CBT program.
